Once the mower is hooked up, the drawbar pins go back in to hold it in line under the mower lift ...I think the No. 8 uses a pitman arm (wooden rod) to drive the sickle. The NH is belt driven as are the later JD mowers 50/250/350/450. Preference would be the belt driven. Pitman arms are known to break. NH mowers have a good reputation. Correct, the #8s used the wooden pitman sticks which did occasionally break.
