COPAA is concerned about the use of restraints, seclusion and aversive interventions as part of educational programs for children with disabilities. Restraints, seclusion and aversive interventions are neither educational nor effective. Instead, their harms and dangers are well-documented. Inappropriately used, they amount to child abuse. Kathryn is a founding member of the COPAA Board, and served as Chair for the 2001-2002 term. After departing from the COPAA Board, she served on the Government Relations Committee for COPAA and remained active in lobbying efforts for IDEA concerns in DC.
